I’m Sarah Hill, founder and principal designer of Sarah Michelle Designs, an Austin based interior design studio focused on creating warm, layered spaces that feel personal, timeless, and deeply lived in.

My approach to design is rooted in the belief that a home should tell a story. Rather than chasing trends, I focus on creating interiors that feel collected over time, layering natural materials, rich texture, and thoughtful details to create spaces that feel personal and enduring.

A big part of my design philosophy comes from the connection I see between personal style and the spaces we live in. Just as fashion reflects personality and individuality, I believe our homes should do the same. The pieces we’re drawn to, the textures we love, and the way we layer objects in a space often mirror the way we express ourselves through clothing.

My path into design started early. I come from a family of makers and artists, and grew up in homes filled with stories of travel, art, and artisan made objects. Some of my earliest memories include exploring my granny’s sewing studio and looking through the fabrics, patterns, and materials she had collected over the years, along with visits to museums, antique shops, and thoughtfully collected homes with my mom and her sisters. Those experiences shaped my instinct for layering pieces from different periods and influences to create spaces that feel meaningful rather than overly styled.

Professionally, I have over eight years of hands on design experience, with a foundation rooted in custom cabinetry and high end residential projects. That early work gave me a deep appreciation for the layers behind great design and the level of detail it truly requires. I later moved into luxury residential furnishings, where I helped clients with everything from sourcing for a single room to fully furnishing and styling entire homes, further shaping my understanding of scale, craftsmanship, and how to create spaces that feel elevated while still supporting the way people truly live in their homes.

Today, I work closely with clients to create interiors that reflect their lifestyle and personal style. Rather than designing toward one specific aesthetic, my focus is always on creating thoughtful, cohesive spaces that feel authentic to the people who live in them.

My goal is always the same: to design spaces that feel like home the moment you walk in.
